I have bought a garment steamer 1500 watts, here at USA , and i want to use it in Italy . What capacity convertor should i buy to convert the voltage from 110volt to 220 volt.

I think it should be 1500watts :220volts=6.8amp=680 watts, but i am not sure if i am right !!!!!

  1. You can buy converters of various capacities.  Some are 50 watts, some are 100 watts.  I know you can buy converters of 1200 watts because I've seen them.  I'm sure they have higher wattages available.  Probably the best thing is to go to a travel store.  You have the best chance of finding a clerk that might know something about converters there.  The next best would be Radio Shack.

  2. I think it should be 1500watts :220volts=6.8amp=680 watts ??? At first in Europe voltage is 230V, but it's not so important. Calculation si next:in USA 1500W:110V(or 117V as I know)=13.63A(12.82A). In Europe 1500W:230V=6.52A. And I don't know where you can buy that convertor, because it has too big power(steamer). I saw convertors 110V/220V, but only for camera,

    and something like that.

  3. If you are going to use the appliance on 220V then by using the formula W=IV where W = Wattage, I = Current &V= Voltage. Therefore:- if it is rated at 1600W for 110V then I = 1600/110 =14.540amps. To use it on 220V then I = 1600/220 =7.72 amps .Therefore a converter (step up transformer) rated at 7.5 amps will do the job but 1 rated at 10 amps would be better as it won't get so hot. Hope this helps.
