  1. Hi Saally. Before you go any further, hit the edit button and add where you are located. this is an international site so people can be recommending cars that either are not sold in your country or are sold under a different name.

Just two comments though which will apply where ever you live - a convertible is fine apart from the fact if you fit a decent stereo it will be very easily stolen!  A sporty car will cost a bomb to insure at your age.  Remember though that automotive technology improves in leaps and bounds yearly and commonplace entry level cars now have performance and handling greater than sports cars of 15 years ago!  To be honest, with fuel costs rising almost daily - and industry sources say this is going to continue - you would do better to concentrate on fuel consumption (my son has had a 280bhp Mitsubishi Legnum sitting on our drive for the last 4 months as though he loves the performance he cannot afford the fuel consumption!).

  2. There are a number of cars to go for.

    1. Ford Focus 1.4 DTi. Cheap on Insurance, Cheap Tax low maintenance costs. All comforts can be found in most Z-Tec versions.

    2. Vauxhall Astra 1.4 Petrol. Cheap on Tax, Insurance and maintainence costs and an economic car. Most comforts can be found in the Astra Envoy range.

    3. Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Diesel. E/W, PAS, Sun Roof, low on Tax, Insurance and quality to maintain.

The thing is, it's not the car you're after, it's the drive.

  3. VW Rabbit or cabbriet which both have alot of convertables, also try jetta

  4. An Audi A3 would be quite a good option. If you go the for 1.9 turbo diesel it is only category B on the tax scale (one up from the cheapest). MPG is fantastic.  They are good sturdy cars that rarely go wrong.  Get the three door option in black and it will look sporty too.  The five door isn't sporty looking.  The downside is repairs can be costly. You have to get an older one for £5,000 but they are fantastic cars.  Since getting my first Audi a few years ago, I have stuck with them ever since.

  5. look on autotrader.co.uk and see what takes your fancy...i was going to say a ford fiesta or something like that, but i dont know what convertables or sports cars are in cheap tax and insurance brackets

  6. If you want speed try a corvette. If you are looking for a more classy car try a porche. If you want a more settle car go for a lexus. It depends on what you are looking for in a car. For a more affordable car or truck try chevy.

  7. How about a little Citroen they do diesel versions of the smaller models (C3 ,C4 etc.).I`m sure you`ll pick up a decent second hand one cheap - they did one a that was like four cars in one LOL.

Being a young female driver you`ll get a great deal on insurance.

  8. cheverolets

  9. i dont think your going to find exactly what your looking for with 5, you might have to settle with something that is not really your style just yet, you'll get what you want eventually, your young and probably just starting to be out on your own so id say find something in the price range and dont be to pickey about it, your going to want something that looks nice and reliable, cheap on gas (we all need that!) atleast you'll have something to get you from point A to point B, good luck!!

  10. Few issues there.  Sporty and convertables will be very expenive in terms of insurance this is becasuse you are under 21 and in some cases under 25.

I personallly would get a diesel Peugeot 206 as they look lovely, run lovely, reliable, not expensice to maintain and there are varieties of models. Mine is a GTI which is a 2 litre: this has lovely suede interior, air con, electric windows, 6cd multi cd changer, electric wipers that automatically change depending of the heaviness of the rain. They are lovely cars.

  11. Consider an 07 or even 08 Honda Civic, which has the options you are looking for and gets good gas mileage.  You might look into the 2 door coupes, though they come in 4 door also.  It drives nicely but isn't what I would call sporty.  There IS a sportier level of Civic called the SI, but it only comes in stick shift.  There's also a Hybrid Civic that gets great mileage but costs more, has a little less trunk space, and no folding rear seat.  With regular Civics, you have various levels, such as LX and EX, with EX being the higher priced one with more options.  (There's also EX-L, which comes with leather.)  You may not be wanting to carry car payments.  But, 5k down on an EX might give some respectable monthly payments of around 280.  Maybe?  It depends on the deal and your chosen options.  A navigation system adds a lot to the price tag, for instance.  Do your homework, regardless of what cars spark your interest.   Check Consumer Reports, which gives good guidelines on buying a car without getting taken advantage of.  Remember, they are car dealers, and their goal is to make as much as possible on the deal.  The more you know, the less you end up paying for things you don't want or need.  Check Honda's web site, because it allows to choose the car you want and price it out.

ALSO:  The Honda Fit might be worth looking into, because it's cheaper and gets even better mileage.

  12. unfortunately you will not find a diesel for 5 thousand unless it has salvage title and stay away w/ anything that has salvage title

look at the mid 90's Civics, Accord, Altimas and Maximas, all cheap to insure, reliable, good on gas, and can run forever, and you can find them in your price range

  13. puegoet 106 diesel,

  14. try the ka convertible its a nice looking car.

  15. For gas; probably a tercel, second generation, 1995 and up, get the manual shift you can't get much more reliable and economical for $5000. if you wanted something more sporty maybe a Paseo, they share the little engine which is very economical and the 1997 paseo is available in a convertible. but the paseo's are often a little pricey. Also look at mid to early nineties honda civics. for diesels check out some jetta's but i find repair parts for jetta's are often very expensive. so pretty much look for Asian 4 cyl standard transmission(because auto tranny's are expensive to replace and in older cars a little less economical). You can find lots of Tercels in good shape fully loaded for fair prices so for the most cost effective solution I'd say check some of them out.

  16. I'm pretty sure cars don't come in Diesel, but maybe a honda civic, cheap insurance, and kind of cheap on gas
