Question:

What car GPS do you recommend?

I am thinking of buying a portable GPS system for my car. I know nothing about them. I estimate that I may really need to use it 2 to 4 times a month. I want something inexpensive. Unless you can convince me to buy a $500+ model. I definitely do not want to pay any monthly fees of any type of service.

  1. If your looking for a cheap GPS that works well, stick with the big names like Garmin and TomTom and check out http://www.tigerdirect.com for some great deals. They have refurbished units for around $100, such as the TomTom One Third Edition. If you don't mind not having the street name spoken, you can get away with a less expensive unit($100-$175), but having the names of streets spoken you will have to spend slightly more($200-$300).

If you don't know which unit has what features, check out http://www.gpsreview.net. They also have some links to good deals on the units they review.

    Good luck!
