  1. Alpine is rated best for over 5 years running..

  2. I would recommend the brand Kicker.

  3. Jl Audio, Alpine, Rockford, MTX all these are some of the more popular brands

  4. head unit- whatever one has the features you are interest in, it should have a sub woofer output (RCAs) on the back so that you can control your sounds from the radio

inside speakers- Infinity, Alpines, JL Audio, or Kenwoods

when it comes to car audio nine times out of ten you get what you pay for- and you need to look for CEA-compliant brands which means that the amps have been tested and produce or exceed the advertised RMS wattage with minimum distortion and the subs can handle their advertised RMS wattage also (distortion is the main cause of speaker damage)

here are the top CEA-compliant brands

    Alpine (highly recommend)

    Bazooka (don't like their subs)

    Blaupunkt (don't like their subs)

    Clarion

    Eclipse

    Infinity (highly recommend)

    JBL

JL Audio (very good but over priced)

    JVC

    Kenwood (don't like their subs)

Kicker (the best in my opinion)

    MTX (highly recommend)

    Pioneer

    Polk Audio (highly recommend)

    PPI

    Rockford Fosgate (highly recommend)

    Sony (don't like their subs)

you want at least 400watts RMS if you are serious

here is a nice set of subs and a couple amps that would match up with them for about $400 and has 600watts RSM total

these subs http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3867... with this amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8651... or this amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5027...

  5. For Subwoofers I suggest Fi Car Audio.  The Fi BTL is a massive subwoofer and is better than the big boys that the mainstreamers use...ie rockford, kicker, mtx etc.  Plus they have GREAT support.  They recone woofers as well.  Check out Steve Meade's 4 18" Fi BTL subs in his tahoe.  People RUN away from his car because it is so loud!

Some other things to note with Fi Car Audio, the owner of Fi used to own Re Audio.  Re audio makes some MASSIVE subwoofers as well.

RE Audio x*x 12" sub is pretty massive I own that sub, a JL W7 and Fi 12" BTL.  All great subs but as I stated some things to note, is that Fi's BTL is under $500 LOADED...with cooling, triple magnets etc.

W7 Retails $750...And the x*x is 800.  The w7 is nowhere in the class of the RE or Fi woofer.  And as stated Fi's support is amazing.

Recones run around $100+  And that is if it is not in warranty.  Warranty recones and fixes are free!

As far as 6.5's go...I would suggest Phoenix gold RSDC componenets.  Great set for a great price.  The retail around the $150 range.  But sound as good as some Focals and Mb quarts $400+ sets.

If you are on a budget, I'd suggest looking at Phoenix Gold RSDC Competition sub.  Great for the price.  12" retails $150.  And is fantastic at that price.

You can find reviews for most of the stuff I listed above at forum.realmofexcursion.com

DD audio is pretty good too for subs.  But again high prices.

As far as decks go, just all depends on what you like.  Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc they all make decent decks.  Kenwood has a good sound quality but higher priced decks.  Alpines look nice...not as many features.  Pinoeer makes good decks....just not my fav....just find out what features you like...and see who has them...play with them demo them try them out!  I personally like kenwood decks...Just grew up with them and they still have Burr Brown built in etc.  The menuing system is pretty simple for me to use.  And they generally have a good feel about them.

Amplifiers if you run with Fi, DD or RE, you will need to have some heavy hitting amplifiers.  I am currently running an Autotek Mean Machine 3000.1.

DD audio makes decent amps as well.  Kicker's amps are not too bad.  Zapco's a little over priced for what you get.  Exile makes a nice 2400 watt amp.  Sundown makes Amazing!!! amps....there's a few to look for....

Anyway check out Realm of excursion.  They will have discussions on amps and subs etc.

PS.  I notice people mention some other brands...I dont feel like knocking them...Do some research.  I guarantee you there are brands you have never heard of that give you the bang for the dollar better sound louder...better quality....and generally cheaper.  IE: Fi Car Audio.

Audio Bahn looks nice...but thats what you pay for.

Sony you pay for the name....and get little in return.

  6. alpine for the head unit, md quart for the mids and tweets, audiobahn or kicker for the amps and subs. They have been awesome for me with lots of in you're face sound.

    Hope that helps

  7. I'm running a power acoustik amp and a sony x-plod stereo and cerwinvega ssub-wooferss sounds awesome but let me tell u i got stopped by the cops like ten times already sucks

  8. For the head unit, Clarion, Alpine and Eclipse are some of my favorites. I would recommend the Clarion DXZ775USB.

  9. rockford fosgate or alpine

id really recommend on getting 2 alpine type r's

  10. kicker L5 or L7 they will shake your car to pieces
