They made the most fuel efficient production car. The Hybrid Honda Insight made from 2001-2006. It got up to 66mpg.

I think if you want quality and mileage, you might want to look at either Honda or Chevrolet. We all know that Honda is known for their high mileage and high quality cars. Chevrolet has better quality than Ford which is bragging about how they are currently equal to Toyota in quality (so common sense dicatates that Chevy is better than Toyota in quality). Chevrolet also has more models that get over 30 mpg than any other manufacturer (so you get variety) and the  best avaliable full sized truck V8 fuel economy.

If you are in the market for a car, a Chevy Malibu (North American car of the year 2007)- 32 mpg, a Chevy Impala (best selling domestic sedan of all time)-29 mpg, the Honda Accord-31 mpg, or a Honda Civic-34 mpg are great choices. Also, both the Civic and the Malibu offer some kind of hybrid (in the case of the Malibu, it is not a full hybrid).
