What car is best on lasting high mileage and best price?

im looking for a car that will last me a long time possibly over 150k mileage but at the same time at a reasonable price.

any suggestions?

I personally dont like them but go with a diesel car. They last alot longer because their motors are made thicker and heavier. However, the best shot you are going to get is , an automatic honda civic, accord, maybe a small nissian truck or car. 150,000 miles is getting into the red zone, so look into diesels if you can afford the gas, but they get better gas mileage anyways,

the clear winner is the VW Turbo Diesel  it gets about 45 MPG highway and around 39 city.  Diesel is a long time technology and well proven over time.   Diesel engines are larger and thicker and have fewer moving parts and easily last well over the 750,000 mile range with basic maintenance.

I would really look for a used BMW they have awesome engines. Not saying you need to get a brand new one. I bought a 96 318i it had 117k when I bought it and now it has 144k. Just do the normal maintence. Get 27city 35 hwy. Sometimes more. Good Luck

the previous poster is only partly correct.

  Diesel power is a proven long-lasting technology.

  The diesel engine now days are very comparable to todays gasoline engine in terms of weight, and size, longevity, durability, etc.  However diesel engines will still have just as many, if not MORE moving parts than their gasoline counterparts, and the regular automotive industry is not building the diesel engines to last into the three-quarter million mile range, those engines are saved for the class 7 and class 8 trucks with engines that range in size from 10 to 17 liters.

  I will agree with him tho, if you are looking for a long lasting, high mileage car, that will be efficient, and inexpensive to maintain, a good compact diesel car would be your best choice.
