My son is the chicco travel seat set right now. The directions show you outgrow this seat at 22 pounds and 20 inches. My son is currently 19 pounds and 29 inches so getting very close. I'm looking to upgrade to a convertible carseat. Which ones do you suggest? The best quality for the price....my son is 6.5 months right now. He's a big boy!!!

Thanks...I'm a first time mom!

  1. i love and will only buy evenflo with the easy touch strap release. they are a life saver and make it so so so easy to adjust the straps so that your child is comfy and safe. it is so easy for a child to be injured if the straps are too loose or tight.

  2. I prefer Graco car seats. The best advice I would give is to take your child to the store and see which one is most comfortable for your child and fits well. Then, see how hard or easy it is to adjust straps and install. And check Consumer reports like the first person said. Good luck.

  3. I would get a seat that is going to last him the longest. This means a taller seat with a higher weight limit as well as a higher shoulder strap height. This will ensure that you can keep him in a five-point harness longer than you can with some smaller convertible seats. With smaller convertible seats, as well as the "three-in-one" seats, children generally reach the height limit or the shoulder strap height limit by the time they are two to three-years old. And that is too young to transition into a booster seat. By getting a higher weight/height limit seat, your child will probably last in it until kindergarten. At that point, a booster is safe.

With that in mind, here are some very good convertible seats that are recommended by many car safety techs...

    Britax Marathon, Decathlon, Boulevard

    Recaro Como or Signo

Sunshine Kids Radian 65 or 80

    Evenflo Triumph Advance

  4. The very best carseat hands down is the Britax Marathon.  If that is out of your price range, go to the Consumer Reports website, they provide their carseat ratings for free.  Remember even though your son is a big boy he still needs to be rear facing until his first birthday.
