What car should I consider buying?

Should I buy a Honda Civic which has a good amount of mileage or a Dodge, Chevy, or Ford with fewer miles? Which one is the better deal for the money? And how many miles will a Honda Civic last for?

Sorry, I rambled on with the questions. But, I am currently looking to buy an used vehicle for about $5,000-$8,000 which would be a reliable, safe, and fuel efficient car. I don't really want to buy a 'cheap' car which would break down on me and I don't know how reliable a Honda would be with the extra miles. I just need a car to help me get back and forth from college when I need to get home (which is about a 3.5 hour drive).

  1. with todays extreme gas prices, i suggest buying at least a hybrid, if not that find a car with at least 30 to 40 mpg

  2. Check out the Zebra, sells for I think 10,000, it's solar, cool car. Let me see if I can find a link and I will come back and post it

Check out the Alias, cool looking ride

  3. Honda's are dependable and all cars longevity depends on the owner. You really have a lot of good options with the amount of money you're looking to spend. 8000 can put you in something close to brand new.  I'd go with something foreign nowadays

  4. The longest lasting Honda in history had over 1 million miles...Honda International took back the car and gave the driver a brand new car free of charge. I would take the Honda, if not the Honda then I would Choose the Dodge next...I would shoot myself before buying a Ford.

  5. I recommend an 05 or 06 Ford Focus. They are really good cars, engineered in Europe, good fuel econ. I understand wanting to buy a Honda because they are good cars but they are just so unaffordable used. Their resale values are out of this world. So in short, I recommend going "domestic," specifically with a Ford Focus.

  6. look for

98 Acura CL, 98 Ford Mustang V6, 98 Honda Accord or Civic, 98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder, 98 Subaru Impreza or Legacy, 98 -00 Toyota Corolla or Echo 00

these are all reliable and will last longer than other cars in this price range.

  7. Alrighty, It is going to maybe hard to find a hybrid that cheap, but there might be one. I think that would be the best pick, because they are very fuel efficient, considering gas is going up alot, plus they come in cars and even suvs!

  8. A honda civic can get you 300000 miles if it's well cared for.  The problem with going used is you may not get the full history on it.  As far as fuel economy goes, the Civic will be your best bet, but the Focus also does pretty well.  Comparable cars from Chevy include the Cavalier and Cobalt, which I'd lean away from, and from Dodge, there's the Neon which I'd avoid at all costs, and the Caliber (Neon replacement) which is not great, but nevertheless probably still too new to be in your price range.  One other car you may consider is the Toyota Corolla from a reliability, safety and fuel economy standpoint.

  9. I would prefer Honda or Toyota.

I guess you should also check insurance quotes for the car before buying one, for example here: http://carinsurance.deep-ice.com

1st time drivers usually have much higher rates than others. And it depends from car.
