What car should I pick?

Yea I turn 16 in 2 months, but my dad won't let me get it till 17.5 at the earliest. So I found 3 cars I narrowed down to. I need the cars to be at least 10-11,000 dollars in 2 years or so. My dad will probably contribute 1000 dollars if I wait.

The cars I like

2003 BMW Z4 2.5 184 HP V6 with automatic transmission (the one I really want to have) Cheapest I saw for this car was around 14,595, something around that price with an automatic

1998- 1999 BMW M3 240 HP V6 with automatic transmission

1990- 1996 Nissan 300ZX 2+2 222 HP V6 with automatic transmission

how much do these cars depreciate per year? and how much will maintenance be like for these cars? I am paying for the car, I have like 3571.31 and still growing. I'm also paying gas, and repairs. insurance will be paid by my parents.

Thanks.

  1. The BMW Z4 would be slow, unreliable and overall trash.

The BMW M3 would be faster but I wouldn't take it over a 300ZX

The 300ZX just happens to be my favorite car. As you've said they make 222hp. You could swap in a turbo engine and ecu and you'd have 300hp. You could raise the boost and put on a new turboback exhaust and make around 400hp. If you wanted to go further you could get forged pistons and at that point you could make over a thousand horsepower. You could also just leave it stock and it's engine will probably last you 300K miles if it's been maintained.

I don't know depreciation but maintenance would be less on the ZX and gas would probably be pretty bad on the M3 and probably best on the Z4. The Nissan 300ZX can easily be had for under $6000 already, you may even find one for $3000 or less since you aren't looking at the turbo model.

If you are worried about gas being expensive you may want to look at a Honda Civic or Acura Integra. I also think you should consider getting a manual transmission. They get 2mpg or so better than autos, make about 5-10% more power to the wheels and you'll impress more people.

  2. Lol You're lucky your parents are paying your insurance because it seems like your gonna crash your brand new used car once you get it.  All you want to do is drive fast and look good in your beamer lol. Get the M3. You will definitely  not be able to affor any of those cars but good luck trying.

  3. There is no way to tell for sure on how much these cars will depreciate until you reach that point. Also, you would be buying used, so there is no guarantee that you will be able to find any of these vehicles when you go to buy a car. I am almost certain that a 96 Nissan would be within your price range by then (if not already). The older of the BMWs might be within your range, or at least close. The 03 BMW is iffy if it will be within your price, but I won't say it definitively won't be priced in your range.

As for maintenance and upkeep, regardless, a BMW is going to cost you a rather significant amount to repair. First of all, German cars are notorious for being complicated and over-engineered. Second, the parts will cost you more. Third, you will most likely have to get it repaired at a BMW or other European import dealership or specialized mechanic. For example, I know a couple of independent mechanics who won't even touch a BMW or Mercedes.

Then comes insurance. Those BMWs would cost a small fortune to insure. The Nissan would probobly cost a fair amount too, but not nearly as much as one of the Beamers.

Overall, I think your wallet would be happier with the Nissan or a comprable Japanese or American car. If you, as a young driver, want to go Euro, go VW. However, if you are planning too keep the car for a signifigant time (like after you graduate college) you may want to spring for the 03 BMW as it is newer and is less likely to have problems as soon.

  4. It Sounds like you are really screwed up by this problem. Hope you could get good luck here.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...
