  1. for safety i say a m1 abrams tank but seriously a chevy cobalt is good safe under 18,000 sporty and gets great gas mileage 26 average mpg between highway and city driving

don't listen to people who say only toyota/honda are good domestics are on par with their reliability and with gas mileage so the playing field is pretty much even just people who aren't into cars don't realize this. GOOD LUCK!!

  2. i suggest going with a Honda civic. preferably a manual trans then an automatic ( if you know how to drive a stick shift). they are awesome on gas mileage and they run forever. i have '96 civic and it has OVER 216,000 miles on it and it runs like it's brand new.

  3. With your price range you should look into something that accents you. Stay away from the PT Cruiser! they are rated worst in safety!! A truck is always going to be the safest but if you're looking for economy..toyota has usually had the upper hand in safety, economy, reliability, and popularity. If you like trucks and want to compromise, Go with a 4 door s-10 or some mid size truck. Useful, reliable, easy on the gas and most important, they're SAFE!! Hope I helped. Look up the most popular cars and see if you like any listed. Dodge suv's have suspension problems, jeeps have exhaust problems, ford has drivetrain problems and chevy has electrical so it's a toss up what you'd like to have to deal with. The new toyota trucks are kicking @ss so don't leave those out of the picture. The toyota prius is a hybrid and gets awesome gas mileage but I personally don't trust their cost of repair yet... Good luck!

  4. GET A TRUCK INSTEAD!! CHEVY! LIFTED!! way hot! and plus trucks are badass and huge and way safe. you can roamp over anything.

  5. Get a freakin water car:

  6. 2009 Toyota Supra..the price will go down in a couple years lol

  7. civic, scion tc, corolla, sentra, altima, camry, accord

all super reliable cars that get great gas mileage

dont go with a vw they have horrible resale value

  8. Do not get an SUV.  They are not safe.  I work for an insurance company.  Despite their size, they are not safe.  According to insurance statistics, SUV's are involved in the most fatalities.  The reason is because the weight and the suspension of the vehicle is not in equilibrium with the wheels.  That is what makes them tip.  Bigger does not mean better.

Don't get a "box car" either.  They may be good on gas, but they are too small.

I would get a medium size car with several airbags.  If you want an car under 18,000, I would recommend a Hyundai Sonata.

  9. Honda Fit (base) 15,385

    Hyundai Elantra SE 17,945

    Mazda3i Sport (sedan) 17,205

  10. Get something that gets good gas mpg. Most new cars now days are safe so you dont really have to worry about that. I would look at a Honda or Toyota those cars are usually pretty well made.

Gosh I wish my parents would let give me $18,000 to spend on a car! My budget was $5,000 and I have to pay it back!

  11. I would consider a used camry or accord.or possibly a chevy impala.

  12. jetta. hands down.

  13. saturn astra. it is the safest car in its class

  14. Nissan, Honda or Toyota are really good ones! There all safe and affordable, you can get a good condition one used for maybe $12000 or a brand new one

  15. Second-hand cars for that budget.

  16. 08 Hyundai Elantra

5 Star Crash Test all around the board

I got mine with leather seats and sunroof for about 15,000

    37 mpg

you can't go wrong with Hyundai, and most people don't understand until they actually see what they have. I highly recommend them to anyone.

  17. You could get a used BMW , Mercedes, Audi or Volvo if you are looking for SAFE. Otherwise look up crash ratings on other types of cars that way you could afford something newer. I think Honda Accords and Toyota Camrys are pretty safe. Good luck and you should feel very lucky your parents are buying you such an expensive car.

  18. Brand new Ford Focus. Very nice car, and base models ring in at under 13000.

  19. get a used evo!! and street race for money

  20. a BMW

hey why am i getting thumbs down? a BMW its really safe, i got one myself and its been wonderful to have it, i got for less than what you have!

  21. Honda Civic or Toyota Yaris. Civic is bigger and cuter but I'm a Toyota fan myself. You can also look into the Nissan Sentras.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Association...blah blah (<whatever their official name is) rates these models well. And you will NEVER have repair problems with these models. They'll last you forever.

  22. Safe for what? all vehicles are safe as long as you drive them as intended, and obey all warnings such as keeping the speed limit at all times. No vehicle is safe at speeds greater than 60miles/hour at 50miles/hour you reach the same energy that is holding you down in the ground(gravity) so you can see why going faster just increases bad things to happen. At 60miles/hour is pretty much luck and avoiding hitting anything head to head that will save you on any vehicle, up to a point that is. So if you can promise your parent that you will drive the car that you want as intended or they can take it back I thin k you are safe to pick any car.
