What car to buy for under $8000?

If I want to buy a car thats around or lower than $8000. I am probably going to be driving a lot, living in Southern California. I am planning to go into higher education for 8 years, so fees for that will be very expensive. Therefore I want a long lasting, good on gas, reliable car. What should I be looking at?

Go to a car auction. You can get a great car there that meets your needs for less than $8,000 and still have some money left over.
