What career can I pursue with a BS in Sociology?

I originally chose sociology because I wanted to be a case worker, not a social worker. You can't be a social worker in AL. with a degree in Sociology, I'm not interested in social work anyway. I just wanted a back up plan.

  1. You can be a social worker or marriage counsellor.

  2. nothing terribly special I'm afraid to say.

  3. Short Answer: You did not do your research properly to begin with. Now you have a certificate with no where to go! Way to go slick!

STOP, LOOK and LISTEN. STOP asking people. LOOK up go speak with professionals in the career path that you aspire. LISTEN to "what" they recommend to help you get to where  you want to be. Meanwhile, be a social worker. It will pay the bills, feed you and provide some funds to help you realize your ultimate dream.

Maybe you can "lean" something as a social worker that will help you in your ultimate career. God works in mysterious way. We just need to LISTEN more closely.

  4. I have a bs in sociology with a minor in social work--I work as a direcor of juvenile court.

  5. anything

  6. There are plenty of jobs for people with a degree in sociology. You do not have to go to graduate school if you do not want to. Some areas where people with sociology degrees work:

    Law/Court system

    Probation/Corrections

    Job and Family Services

    Housing

Social Service Agencies (YWCA, Drug Addiction Centers, etc.)

    Research (Market, Government Institutions)

    Teaching

I think a good place to start looking for a job is with the government. There are a variety of positions available to people with a social science background.  It is true that rarely you will find a want ad that says "Sociologist wanted".  However, that does not mean there are not jobs for them.   Good luck!

  7. Well having a degree will get you better money in alot of jobs so anywhere really. I would either go into business or go to school longer and become a sociologist. Also, you can go into law.

  8. Wal-mart cashier.  Seriously, I have a Ph. D. i Sociology, and I can't get a job anywhere!  It's like I'm totally worthless!!!

  9. Research, teaching or like another poster said, you'll get a better paid job anywhere just because you have a degree, look for graduate schemes with 'golden hellos'.  You could do an MA in anything, I think, which I believe takes a year.

  10. TESCO might take you on as a shelf stacker.

  11. Most people choose a career, then tailor their degree to achieve that career.....

Not get a degree and then see what kind of job you can get....
