What career would be my best choice?

What profession would accept a newbe that is an older woman. The age discrimation is alive and well, and I understand why - I just have to deal with it.

That said, I must work for a long time yet.

My talents include computer, office, 65 wpm, etc. Customer service, receptionist.

I am not sales material.

Would getting a degree or certificate help? In what?

I am currently working thru a temp agency for a company that will not hire anyone, and a $9.50 per hour staying on is not a viable option.

  1. try telemarketing or a receptionist position.  I know in my area they pay from 14-16 dollars an hour.  Certificates always help!!!

  2. Hi Litl M!

Thankfully, if you own your own online home-based business, you not only don't have to worry about the age factor, you also don't have to worry about fighting traffic and spending a bundle on car fuel every month!  It sounds as though you have the necessary skills to use a computer and a phone - the two main office tools I use to run my HBB.

I am my own boss, yet am linked to a huge, long-standing reputable company that is registered with the Better Business Bureau.  I don't have to make cold calls, do demos, schedule parties or drive product to client's homes.  I also didn't have to have any experience as I was trained for a very low start-up cost.  (I have two degrees, but they didn't help me in the real world once I stopped to have babies!)   Now I can work at home and be there to take my girls to school and pick them up from school, and make my own schedule to work around their special events.

Should you like more information on what I do, please feel free to check out my website as listed in my profile (not supposed to provide link here).

    Good luck!!

  3. -Find a new temp agency.  I worked with Kelly Services (they have locations all over the US) and I got a long term assignment for $15/hour.

-Getting a degree or certificate might help-- but it might also be taking a small step backward because you have to pay for the education plus take the time and go to school.  It may be worth it, but you'll have to sacrifice work for that.

I think you would make a great receptionist or assistant.  I know many older women who do this after retiring.  You just have to find a good temp agency who will find you a position.  Otherwise, you can always be a substitute teacher at an elementary school (but unfortunately they only call you when they need you.)

  4. Hi go to http://www.moreniche.com/join.html?w=133... sign up and basically this is an easy money making idea. Even just a bit and its really no work.
