What careers are available for an Anthropology Major?

I am very interested in taking Anthropology in college and am curious as to what my realistic career options would/could be if I choose to take this path?

  1. Anthro's much to broad of a field to really answer that succinctly on the internet.  You could go into academics, business, research, government, policy...and each of those have many many options.

    Take the intro class, it probably fulfills a general requirement anyway, so even if you find it's not your bag you didn't waste any time. A good course will have a section on Applied Anthro and a good teacher will discuss possible careers for every chapter.


  2. I have a co-worker who is finishing her Anthropology degree, and she is planning to be a UN ambasador.

    An anthropology major is useful in virtually all careers that deal with people. You could choose to travel the world to study existing or extinct cultures, conduct excavations, study traditions of various tribes, etc.

  3. Other careers include: Photojournalism, researcher, social worker, most media, educator.
