I'm really interested in the cultural and social aspects of society. It sounds like fun to study. But can I really do anything with this major?

  1. Both socialogy and anthropology are primarily good for getting jobs teaching socialogy and anthropology.

If you are really interested in doing that thing and getting paid, try social work or public health

  2. Teaching Cultural Anthropology.  Kind of like Black or Womens studies, no offense.

  3. Sociology is a bit more marketable.  However, neither of these degrees without a masters is going to take you far in a career.

  4. Although they are labeled under Social Science, these are 2 competely different fields...not interchangable.  If you are interested in Cultural Anthropology, then you need to ask yourself what part interests you: gender studies, cultures (geograhic specific),  human rights, etc ?  This is a large field.  The opportunity for employment is quite good with just a BA/S in Anthro.  The studies in anthro prepare students to be able to communicate across cultures/languages and recognize cultural differences/similarities.  These are lessons that will be essential in our culturally diverse workplaces. Additional skills are interviewing, analyzing data, planning and implementing field studies, and many more.

Obviously with continued education the career opportunities increase, however that is true for most fields, not just Anthro or Sociology.

I would recommend doing research on both..do a basic job search and see what pops up. I think you may be surprised.

  5. Cultural anthropology.....maybe a curator at a museum or a teacher or professor.

  6. I would advise coupling the anthropology with sociology pays better
