We're celebrating our 25th anniversary and don't want to have a lot of children around. I'm leaving mine at home and need a ROMANTIC getaway. We have never been on a cruise before and we're a bit apprehensive. We also don't want to have to dine in large groups of people we don't know. Just looking to spend some quality time with my together.

  1. The princess cruise lines are perfect for you. You can have dinner with a table for two in the dinning room by just requesting it on the first  day of your cruise. You would want to go down to your dinning asap after you get on the ship to make this request. Or the other choice is to have you dinner brought to your room as in room service. Of course you can eat anytime in the buffet court. They have food there 24 hours a day. Princess also has anytime dinning in the dinning room. If this is what you want, just request it when you book the cruise. Going on a cruise is one of the most romantic and relaxing ways to see the sights. I have been on 8 cruises with princess and highly recommend it, especially someone in your age group. If you go on a cruise during the school year and not at holiday time or spring break time, you will see very few kids, especially with princess.

  2. Oh my, may I please highly recommend Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines??? My family goes every year and I went once with them and it was absolutely fabulous. I don't even know how to sum up the perks. Kids will definitely not be a problem since all the kiddie stuff is at the back of the ship and they have an arcade and a kids' club to keep them entertained all day. You can be as social or anti-social as you choose to be, which is what I like because I like to have my quiet time. I've been told that Carnival is the exact opposite- too many kids on board. All I know is that my eyes light up whenever someone talks about cruising and this was one of the best experiences I've had so far. Please go, I know you'll be pleased and feel free to write me all about it when you get back. Oh, and I recommend eating in the Dining Room as opposed to the cafeteria because the food is better and it's quieter there. The food is free there just like in the cafeteria by the way.

  3. Congratulations on your anniversary!

Avoiding children is relatively straightforward -- just go on a cruise sometime OTHER than summer or school holidays.  Also cruises that are longer than 7 days, or relatively expensive, will also have fewer kids.

In terms of which line to go on, it depends a bit on what you like.  My husband and I love Holland America Line because they pay attention to the "little details" and have really attentive, respectful service.  The food is also outstanding.

This article might help you decide on which line; it explains which cruise line is best depending on which things you care about:

In terms of getting a romantic table for two, when you book just tell your travel agent (or the cruise line, if you book directly) that it's your anniversary and you really need a table for two.  Especially if you're booking a good while in advance **any** cruise line should be able to accommodate you.  If they can't confirm when you book, then go to the Maitre d' , who will be in the main dining room, immediately when you arrive at the ship.  He will make it happen.
