  1. which elizabeth?

  2. Queen Elizabeth I (who reigned 1558–1603) spent much of her time at Windsor Castle and regarded it as the safest place in her realm and would retire here in moments of anxiety, as she described it: "knowing it could stand a siege if need be". While her statement suggests the castle was still very much a fortress, she too contributed to the transformation by constructing the north terrace as a place to exercise, and over it she built a covered gallery, a very early example of what was later to be known as a conservatory. This building has survived relatively unaltered. Still containing an enormous Tudor fireplace, it today houses the Royal Library.

  3. Windsor Castle was one of her residences.  It's even said that her ghost walks there to this day!

Whitehall, Greenwich, Hampton Court, Greenwich, Richmond, Westminster, St James and Nonsuch Palace later.  These are all palaces.  There was a tradition that the king or queen would spend some time directly before their coronation in the Tower of London, which was also a castle.  Elizabeth certainly spent some time there before she became queen.

As another answerer said, she'd also visit courtiers at their homes, some of which might be castles, and almost bankrupt them, for the host had to provide queenly entertainment and comfort for her.

Here's an interesting piece on the queen and her court:

  4. HI, you have asked about Queen Elizabeth the First, although the other people answering you have somehow missed this.  She travelling around an awful lot.  Living in palaces rather than castles.  Castles are medieval and predate her reign by several hundred years.  She did stay at Kenilworth and Warwick Castle, in Warwickshire, both of which were updated in the Tudor period ,    Palaces include Tower of London (yes, its a palace) and Richmond.  The reason for being so mobile - royal entourages were expensive, so if you travelled about your host had to put you up and pay for your keep.  Clever eh!!!!

  5. Elizabeth 1?  Or Elizabeth 2?
