  1. Could be mildew, bacteria or disease. If the whiteness can be rubbed off with your hand, you can fix that problem with a herbicide.

If it's white, it's possible that you're overwatering the plant, killing off all the chlorophyll. Read up on your plant and find out if your tree like a lot of water or only a bit of water. If it only likes a little bit of water but you've kept it's soil sopping wet, then stop watering it. Some of these trees can go weeks without having to be watered. Check to see if you're over doing it.

Another reason as to why the leaves are dying so quickly might be a response to stress. Yes, plants can get stressed just like us. The stress could be caused by temperature fluctuations (it's too cold or too hot), humidity, sun availiability and water availiability. Dramatic changes in any of these areas takes a plant sometime to get used to. Allow it to adjust a bit better. For example. If you took a young sapling from outside in a nursery to inside your house, there's a whole new temperature change (especially if you have air conditioning) and a change in sunlight exposure (instead of being outdoors where it gets 12-14 hours of sun, it now can only get sun from a window). These climate changes cause the plant to 'panic' and go into 'survivor' mode. In order to save energy, the plant kills off certain leaves and sucks away their chloroplasts and sugars and such. This insures the the stem of the plant stays safe. Plants can always grow back new leaves, but they can't grow a stem back as easily. It's kinda like how humans can survive without their arms or legs, but not without their torso.

So there's your answer: either you have a pest eating your plant, you're overwatering it, or you've stressed it out in someway. Read up on your plant and you'll probably be able to figure what's wrong :)

    Good luck
