What causes a cars engine to whistle as rpms go up?

well it could be the iac since my rpms stay around 2000rpm until engine heats up

  1. Probably a vacuum leak. Likely caused by a bad gasket.


  2. It depends of the brand and year of the car. It may be the belt, sometimes the carburator adjuster and sometimes the probles is the calister.

  3. ....idle air control leaking...or some other form of vacuum leak, check all your vacuum hoses and iac motor

  4. could be your belts are too loose. or not properly lubricated.

  5. if your car is turbocharged, it sounds as if you have a charge air leak.  when the turbo builds boost pressure, it is leaking.  check hoses and clamps from turbo to intake manifold.

  6. heck, maybe it's just happy.

  7. I have a turbo charged car, and the turbo or the super charger spooling makes a whistle sound. Depends on your car...

  8. Lots of different things, you need to tell us what type of car you have and somewhat where the whistling is coming from for us to even diagnose anything...
