  1. A number of things cause temperature change. One is the sun's rays hitting the earth;s surface. As the day goes on, the temperature warms up because more of the sun's rays are hitting the surface. At night they're not so the temperature decreases. Also, a cold and warm front during a cold front, temperatures decrease because a cold air mass is taking place of a warm air mass. During a warm front it's the opposite. Temperature change affects matter because as temperature increases, solids increase in size and it can also melt into a liquid or sublimate into a gas and when it decreases so does the size of the object. For liquids, when temperatures increase, the liquid will start to evaporate and when temperatures decrease, the liquid will start to solidify. For gases, as temperature increases nothing happens. But when it decreases, the gas will eventually condense into liquid or sublimate into a solid.
