  1. Seizures can be caused by a number of things:

    1. Poisoning

    2. Allergic reaction

    3. Genetic weakness

Every dog (and human, and mammal, for that matter) has the potential for seizures. What varies is the trigger threshold of the body. A large dose of chemicals introduced to the body (poisoning) can cause it to tip over that threshold regardless of how high it is.

Allergic reactions to chemicals can also cause the body to tip over that threshold, if it is lower.

If an animal (human, etc.) has a genetically low threshold (i.e. their body just can't handle overstimulation of any kind), many things can cause them to seize -- strobing lights, small amounts of certain chemicals, stress, excitement, etc.

"Idiopathic Epilepsy" basically means, "something is causing the seizures, but we don't know what that is". It could be a low seizure threshold, it could be high sensitivity to an everyday chemical, etc.

So, unless you can isolate something in the environment that is triggering the seizures, you may never be able to find the cause.

    Hope this makes sense.

  2. Why the h**l are you on here instead of calling the vet to tell them your dog is seizing?!  Get that dog to the vet IMMEDIATELY!  Seizures are usually a sign that the brain isn't getting enough oxygen.  btw seizures in a dog are usually fatal
