What causes a grinding noise when I drive, brake, and turn in 2000 Ford Ranger?

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 with about 130,000 miles. Just recently I have a experienced a grinding /scraping sound that seems to be coming from the front passenger's side wheel. The noise is constant; it starts as soon as I start driving. It sounds like metal scraping concrete and gets deeper as I slow down and when I fully press my brake pedal it makes a really really deep grinding noise and it stops until I start driving again. It doesn't start making the really really deep grinding noise until the brake pedal is fully depressed. It is way worse when I turn left, but still makes the noise when I turn right. I can't bring it in to the mechanic until Friday or Saturday, but I am nervous it might be some kind of safety hazard. Any suggestions?

  1. It's because you drive a ford. Remember FORD stands for Fix Or Repair Daily.

  2. It sound slike your brake pads are non existent and need replacing. You will probably need new discs as well.

  3. Could be bad brakes, so worn it's now metal on metal.  Could be a warped rotor that is in contact with something that it shouldn't be touching. Tough to say. Could even be bad bearings, needing to be regreased, or a bad hub altogether.

Since it's only 1 wheel I think you are mostly safe, but it would suck if that problem created a bigger problem in the long run. Get it checked sooner than later.

  4. did you check the pads?, they might be worn down to the metal, or a bad wheel bearing.

  5. You need new brake pads NOW!

  6. i reckon it is a problem with the brakes.

you shouldn't drive it because it could put your life in danger.

    Sorry couldnt be more help
