What causes cervical-type spasms? It feels like my cervix is contracting and it hurts. Is this normal?

  1. typically you can't feel your "cervix" specifically....  you can feel uterine contractions/spasms.  I have heard of this during pregnancy, but your didn't mention whether you were pregnant or not.

    Nevertheless, there often is an irritant that causes pain/spasms, etc.  I would strongly suggest you go see your doctor, get a pelvic exam with cultures.  This will show (1) is there an infection or sores that you may not be aware of, (2) are there uterine masses such as fibroids or cysts with can cause pain.
