  1. There are natural as well as human-made causes of the greenhouse effect. The natural causes of the greenhouse effect are the emissions of gases like nitrous oxide, carbon-dioxide, methane, ozone and water vapour.

One of the man-made causes of the greenhouse effect is deforestation. Deforestation increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Also greenhouse gasses can be released into the atmosphere due to the burning of fossil fuels, oil, coal and gas. These materials are used increasingly and rampantly in industries therefore industries are also a major cause of the Greenhouse Effect. Disappearance of trees and photosynthesis cannot take place. Deforestation is rampant today due to the increase in human civilisation. The levels of deforestation have increased by about nine percent in recent times.

Also, the burning of wood causes it to decay, therefore releasing more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The greenhouse effect is actually beneficial to the Earth. It is only when human-made processes increase its speed that the problems occur.

  2. The three biggest contributors are ozone, carbon dioxide, methane and once upon a time CFC's.

The effects include an increase in global temperature as these gases cause an increase in the thickness of the Ozone layer causing less heat to be released into the atmosphere, the destruction of ecosystems....

  3. Meteorologists have been using the term "greenhouse effect" far longer than the faddish context it is used in today.

Clouds themselves create a natural greenhouse effect - clouds at night make for a naturally warmer night because the sun's energy is not allowed to escape back out of the atmosphere.

On the contrary, clouds provide a natural cooling effect by using the same concept. Cloudy days are cooler because the the cloud cover blocks the sun's energy from fully reaching the surface.

The computer generated models that "predict" the earth's future temperatures do not take into account the effect that clouds have on the termperatures - they can raise OR lower the temps.

It's one of the reasons I believe the theory about man-made global warming is so flawed.

  4. Many things to consider.  Have at look at this page...

...and its links to see what I mean.

  5. While some will say this is a myth, the general theory is that carbon dioxide creates larger amounts of Ozone, which in turn traps the suns rays in the atmosphere.  Since the sun's light cannot reflect off the water on our planet and bounce back into space, it has more of a chance to warm the planet, thus overtime raising the planets average temperture.
