What causes lip colour?

Why are some lips pale skin colour, others pink, others rougish, others brown?

Is it blood flow?

  1. I would guess genetics and skin color.


  2. Remember, the amount of pigment melitonin in your skin is genetic. But, your lips are not covered by skin. Otherwise they'd be the same color.  

      The lips are an extension of the GI tract. Yes, the mouth is the begining of the a**s.  Yuck!  Therefore, the lips are more of muscular mucus membrane. And are not covered by skin. That's why lips will chap more easily & burn more easily than skin. Use Chapstick.

      The difference in color is because of the "thinner than skin" membrane covering the lips vs the "thicker skin" covering the lips. What color the membrane is ,,, is genetic.  

      

  3. If you have ever cut your lip you would know it is blood flow. The more

    blood in the area the  more nerves and the more colour. All lips are

    red as all blood is red. The different in shades has to do with each

    persons' skin tone.
