  1. Obsessive compulsive disorder can be caused by a number of things;

stress, anxiety, lack of control of your life...

to be classified as having an OCD you must have a obsession or a compulsion according to the DSM-IV-TR (see the website linked for criteria)

May people label others who are perfectionists or meticulous as having an OCD but this may not be the case.

An example of an OCD is a person who believes that everything is contaminated and has to continuously wash their hands even when it is not necessary.

An other example would be having a routine of odd behaviors such as opening and shutting a door 10 times after going through it.

I would suggest you read the information on the website i have listed.

  2. I used to have it as a kid, basically i would shut the door a certain number of times, or switch the light on or off a number of times in order to stop the devil stealing my soul.

I think it was because i was introduced to bad things which i knew i couldn't prevent harming me.

Luckily i have grown out of it.

It was like fighting against myself.

I had to tell my head to shut up and stop controlling my life.

Finally i was free of the condition, and i'm so much happier!

  3. People dont know exactly what causes it, i think it may be to do with chemicals in the brain, sometimes it can happen if a child experiences a trauma, as with many mental illnesses. Sometimes people just have them, its quite common.

    David Beckham apparently has it.

  4. A person with OCD usually has an irrational impulse to do something repeatedly or constantly. It is an anxiety disorder. Anxious feelings exist in a person with OCD until they perform the act that they are impulsively driven to do. I believe the disorder is a result of too much seratonin uptake in the brain, because OCD sufferers often benefit from the use of seratonin uptake inhibitors.

For example, my grandmother truly suffers from OCD and is cleaning constantly. I have never seen her home other than spotless and in place, and she hardly ever sits still because she compulsively cleans and tidies up. She can't rest if everything is not ship-shape. Not kidding.

Other people have certain ticks that could be considered OCD. Like pulling your hair out, or counting tiles on the floor, or washing your hands compulsively. Anorexia and bulemia are considered OCD's. Some people with certain sexual fetishes are OC. Gambling, hoarding, Tourette's syndrome.

It's hard to say how many people are affected by forms of OCD, because most people do not seek help for their compulsions.

  5. OCD - this is not as uncommon as you may think, everyone has it in one way or another.

it can be as small as putting the cup on one side of the table,it doesnt feel right if it isnt there, you dont get anxious, but it feels strange.

Usually stems from something your parents did, or something that traumed you when you were younger, its nothing to be ashamed of and it isnt a disease, as I stated, everyone suffers it one way or another
