  1. 1 low charge  what type of refrigerant?

    2 dirty coils

3 burnt out fan motors which prevent any heat exchange

I am a hvac pro.  Because of the licenses needed to work with refrigerant you are in need of a service call.  iced coils will cause liquid to return to the compressor and blow it up costing thousands rather than a service call and some parts

  2. Opening the door too often and leaving it open too long.

Moist, atmospheric are enters the freezer and, on freezing, the ice collects around the coils.

Placing too much warm foodstuffs at the same time into the freezer, will also cause icing as the system has to work harder and for a longer time to bring the temperature down.

  3. Jailhouse is right, but it could also be as simple as worn out door seals. If the seals are leaking, or to many people are coming and going into and out of the refrigerator, this could also be a source of the problem. Go to the local air conditioning parts store, such as CC Dickson, if there is one nearby, and get a gallon jug of their coil cleaner. Follow the directions on the label, and clean the inside and outside coils. Make sure that all of your fans are working as they should, as well as all thermostats are working. To test a thermostat, change the setting, lower, and see if the system operates. If anything does not work, then call for a serviceman to visit. Leaky seals are one of the main causes of icing due to excessive moisture, and frequent system run time.

  4. moisture from the air condensing out on the cold coils then freezing.

Same principle for a dehumidifier or AC.
