  1. Weak springs cause the struts to work more than they should, and will cause them to wear out quickly. Fatigue from driving lots of miles on bumpy roads can also cause them to wear out too soon, but shocks and struts are considered "wear items" and will eventually need replacement no matter how careful you are.

  2. Rough roads can speed up wear, or maybe just old age.

  3. rough roads age also if you have got a tow bar as that is putting more weight on the rear of the car

    good luck h

  4. Use.

Think about it.  A strut cycles billions of times over its life.  Eventually it is just going to wear out.

Motorist Assurance Program guidelines recommend replacing OEM struts at 50,000 miles because by that time the performance will have dropped off measurably.

  5. Believe it or not the most common reason for them failing is from salt on the roads. Salt is normally applied in the winter to keep the road clear, but what happens is the salt is trapped between the rubber bushes and the metal pins. Over time the rubber perishes.

    Ja.

  6. Neither really; They're cheap, consumable items.

  7. wear & tear!!

  8. The rubber seals deterioate and leak hydraulic fluid. They are not repairable.
