I was in Athens at the weekend and when we walked through the National Park by the parliament buildings there was a very loud sound of what I belived to be crickets but they seemd to live in the tree tops so my Wife said they would probably be birds. does anyone know what causes this sound?

  1. The animal sounds that you heard were comming from the tzitzikas. They are very difficult to see as they are camouflaged by the trees. They are really annoying creatures and you heard them when the temp.rises in the suburbs they can even be heard at night when it is really hot.

Cicada (tzitzikas) - visit link - they are difficult to spot on the tree trunks - but if you look long and hard enough you'll see the noisy things!
