What causes the bald pathes you see on most giraff's necks ?

The baldness on the ossicones of some giraffe's can be used to s*x them in the wild. They result from 'neck fighting' - an activity in which only the males engage

With a name like leopardtracker I'd think you'd know that these aren't bald patches, they're spots like leopards and other animals have. They each have a unique pattern of spots which may help them tell each other apart.

If you do see bald patches on captive giraffes, it could be because they're rubbing themselves on something. I know some  giraffes who are a little bald atop their ossicones. No idea why - it could be like male pattern baldness, LOL.
