What causes the hick-ups??

  1. there is a nerve in the back of your throat that if say something get's stuck or is hard to swallow like an ice cube or something.. it can nudge that nerve and it can set off hick-ups...

    Some studies suggest low oxygen in the blood... others just say it's like the brain sneezing..  


  2. Hiccups are caused by a shortage of oxygen to the phrenic nerve, which controls the diaphragm.

  3. the phrenic nerve gets stimulated, and in turn causes spasms/contractions in the diaphram
