What causes the lift when para sailing?

I'm not sure how to phrase the question, but how does one get themselves out of the water into the sky? As the boat drags you, are you on a ski, or being dragged in the water?

Will you elaborate a bit for me please?

  1. The parasail is a cross of a wing and a kite.

Flatter on the bottom, and with some curve on the top, so you get the effect as an airplane's wing as you get speed. Low pressure on the top, higher pressure on the bottom, so it is lifted up.  Its like a bubble rising, except the pressure comes from motion.
