  1. it's not carbon, it's the breaking of the disulfide bonds in all the protein in your hair... SULFUR = STINKY

Several amino acids contain sulfur.  Amnio acids are the building blocks of proteins.  The keratin of hair and the carapace of ants is composed of protein.  When hair is burned or ants are immolated, many odorous volatile compounds are produced, but the most acrid by concentration are SULFUR DIOXIDE and HYDROGEN SULFIDE.
