What causes white chalk marks on hanging baskets?

  1. Lime scale, from the hard water.  You can scrub it off with a mix of vineagar and dish detergent.  Don't get it on the plants.


  2. They are from the minerals in the water. When the water evaporates, the minerals are left behind.

  4. Sounds like you have an insect problem.

    (but if its outside, try not to look at the baskets !!!)-- or plant  flowering plants there to overhang --over - the edges!
