What causes those little white spots on your teeth, even though they have nothing to do with braces due to they're distance from their brackets?

Thank you!

  1. if you eat a lot of acids, brush too often, don't brush at off, rinse your mouth too often with fluoride, or if you ever let a pill dissolve in your mouth.

  2. i think its basically from not brushing enough

i have braces and i can see white spots popping up from them

its totally not a good thing i know and thats basically the only thing i've been worried or down about for the past month or so.

a few months ago when i went to the ortho. she said that i only have one on the bottom in the back and then about a week later when i thought i noticed more i basically broke down.

my mom called the next day and she said there are no more than that.

i'm very confused but i don't think my orthodontist is even allowed to lie to me no matter what it's about.

so basically my parents wasted they're money because my teeth are going to be uglier when i got them off now. =(

so whoever you are, you're not alone if you have em.

  3. I tell my patients about these spots every day! They are called white spot lesions or incipient caries. If you weren't born with the white spots on your teeth, then its from not brushing properly. If you notice them close to the gum line, then you need to start brushing better along the gum line. When our enamel starts to get cavities, the enamel weakens first and it turns white. If the plaque continues to sit on the white spot lesion, it will eventually turn brown and create a hole.

There is a mouth rinse call Phos-Flur by Colgate that is supposed to help get rid of a percentage of them. but for the most part, they are permanent. Just start brushign better and you won't get anymore, and wont get cavities there.

If they were like that when your teeth came in, then its possible that they are from ingesting too much fluoride as a child (while the adult teeth were still being developed), these white spots are called fluorosis. They too are permanent

    :)

    Hope I answered your question!
