A junior officer took the ship off of auto pilot, and turned the ship too hard. It was conpletely human error.

I just returned from a week on the Crown Princess which was the ship that tipped. I posed the same question to a few of the crew. The Captain had put on the auto pilot and then a junior officer took off the auto pilot and made some type of a navigation mistake that caused the ship to tilt for 4 seconds. All the passengers on board charges were picked up by Princess.

"Human error caused a cruise ship to abruptly tilt at sea last week, sending furniture and debris flying about the boat and injuring 240 passengers, a cruise line official said. "
