Question:

What ceramic to use on a coffee mug?

I'm doing a school project where i am making a coffee mug that keeps your coffee warmer. I need to use ceramic to keep the components underneath it in place, and most importantly to make it look like the rest of the mug. Does anyone know of any ceramic that could be used and set well enough to be used in a dishwasher? Effectively it is an extension of the bottom of the mug

  1. There are ceramics but they all need to be baked at high temperature in a kiln. They do not "set" like cement.

Ask in any place that sells pottery supplies and while you are there ask how much they charge to fire that ceramic in their kiln for you.

  2. Most often, "Ceramic" used for Mugs or dinnerware is Porcelain. It's a finer, more substantial grade of clay, and needs to be kiln fired to approx. 3600 degrees for a specific number of hours. I suspect your intent is valid, but what you suggest is unlikely to be viable.
