What changed at Sturgis?

At the annual bike rally, Harley-Davidson was the only bike that was welcome. Now, any kind of bike can be found there. What changed?

Who ever told you that Harley was the only bike allowed there....was mistaken.

All bikes have tires, not all bikes have ever just been Harleys there, some of the first bikes there were brittish made bike. In the 50's.

Just got back last sunday, lots of Harley's but a bunch of metrics. No issues, you ride on 2 wheels its all good.

The difference is Sturgis is now family friendly and the old school bikers stay in the campgrounds or hang out in Hewlett Wyoming.

Sturgis is now mostly tourists, RUBS, and people buying t-shirts.

I've always seen all sorts of bikes there. Harley is the bike choice by a huge amount at the get together.

I dont know your source but i Rode a kaw chopper up there in the 70s and saw just about every kind made while I was there

I've been going to Sturgis for 40 years and all makes of bikes are welcome. Harleys are the most plentiful but doesn't mean others aren't welcome. Besides, who would tell you you're not welcome?

When I went a few years back the Harleys were the most notable bacause many were the often the  loudest. My BMW was welcomed any place I stopped.- especially by Harley riders broken down and needing help: got a couple going, Had to use knife on points on superglide with worn down rubbing block, had oil and clamp for other one. Profiling chopper riders don't carry many tools. Best setup bike I saw was a Army 45 upgraded to 12volts with G parts, looked like WR heads, sportser mufflers added to drag pipes. fairly quiet, good headlights, still had bags for gear.
