  1. I think the hardest roadblock to overcome is lack of trust. Unless a student has had a bad experience in the past their tendancy is to trust teachers. This trust can quickly fade when a teacher lacks consistency in classroom management. If a student expects punishment they should receive it. If a student expects reward they should receive it. When a student finds that a teacher is not consistent in discipline with all students then the trust is lost. No trust no learning.

  2. What I have seen in my classes is a lack of understanding of the learning process.  Students think that all school is about is learning pieces of information.  Through an exploration of diverse topics, I try to guide them toward an understanding of skills as well as information.  I introduce them to Bloom's Taxonomy and the types of cognitive skills that result from different types of academic activities.  Knowing how the things we do in class will improve their ability to perform in other areas diminishes their resistance to challenging tasks.

  3. I think the roadblocks to effective teaching and learning do not solely lie on the students characteristics or how they behave in class. Moreso, it is the teacher's inability to set the proper classroom standard caused by bad classroom management.  Failure to set the correct rules for the student to follow and the inconsistency in imposing such rules will serve as the roadblocks to smoothsailing teaching and learning.
