  1. Quilts of Valor is an organization that gives quilts to wounded servicemen and women. A friend is very involved with this group and has been present at quilt deliveries several times. It is very moving to hear how much the quilts mean to the recipients.

  2. Check with your local quilt guild or quilt shop, there might be an ongoing program for donation quilts. My guild donates to childrens programs such as foster kids, abused children, seriously ill children, we also make patriotic quilts for wounded servicepersons.  If you can't find a local program, you can contact  Project Linus at www.projectlinus.org for a local contact for childrens charities, or the Quilts of Valor program at www.qovf.org/ for patriotic donations.

  3. ohh... I wish someone would make a special quilt for my foster kids... they would love one that would focus on their interests.  Try contacting your local foster care association.

  4. I am a charity knitter, not sewer so am not sure about quilts.  However, if you don't want to make full size quilts, you might want to see if the local hospital can use them for infants.  I know that hospitals in low income areas sometimes send home clothing or blankets with newborns, and some use them right in the nursery (though you need to follow specific guidelines for patterns).

If you are interested in sewing for babies you might want to check the Careware site below to see if there is a need in your area.

  5. You can give them to battered women's shelters.  Many children coming through there come with nothing.  Same for foster care, though that is not technically a charity.  Also check with red cross as they deal with families in tragedy that loose everthing.

    Good idea,  Good luck!
