  1. wow, tough question.  I'm not sure there is one answer to this.  My response would be focusing on a charity that works with children as I believe that if you catch them young you can keep them on the straight and narrow and they will develop into great humanitarian citizens.

I guess you need to go for something you feel passionate about, whether that be children, AIDS, cancer, homelessness or animals.  If you are based in the UK check out the New Philanthropy Capital website - they produce research reports on different topics, highlighting the best charities to donate to if you want your money well used.

  2. Choose carefully. A lot of charities - but not all of course - are money making rackets, giving their top men very high salaries, while unpaid volunteers raise the cash for them.

Sometimes, the family living next door to you may be more in need of your help and charity, than any of the famous fund raisers.

  3. Pick an animal charity. There's not enough of us standing up for the plight of a lot of animals. They don't have their own voice.

  4. Any charities involved with the resaerch and development of cures for diseases such as aids or cancer.

The are killing millions of people a year around the world so money for research in to a cure makes a strong argument.

  5. The homeless they are right on your door step yet people dont even know just how many there is. I mean how many times do people rais funds for the homeless compaired to raising funds for Africa or other places far away from home.

  6. Well, choosing a charity to donate to is truly a personal and specific experience for each individual.  I would head to the first resource link below and start doing some research on the various charities within that site.  It rates and evaluates every charity within that site, and there are hundreds, and grades them on how they run their organizations. You'll know if the charity is a member of the Better Business Bureau community, how much they earned annually, what their administrative costs are, as well as how much financial waste the organizations have!  Just search upon a keyword in the search window... i.e. hunger, aids, child abuse, cancer, disaster.

However, if you keep yourself conscious of other ways of donating to charities, you'll find that you can earn money for charities without actually having to donate extra money.  There are many tools which allow you to earn donations for charities whenever you buy specific products or services online... even whenever you complete free informational surveys.  The second resource link below lists the top 10 Facebook charity applications, and how they earn money for charities.

I like the Good Samaritan application, as it has many products and services that I 1) already have, or 2) want to have in the future.  There is a pretty good choice of items to buy, at a special discount, as well as free surveys that allow me to earn money for charities without actually spending money.

  7. look in your own city first.....homeless...

  8. Well I think you should select what type of charity you are most interested in helping.  There is no one charity which needs the most help.  Personally I am most interested in charities which do things such as disaster relief (obviously needing a lot of help at the moment for Burma), disease control and also helping child soldiers, but thats not to say they need the most help.

Have a look around, and pick out something that you feel most passionate about.  You might want to do something local - like helping at a homeless shelter, teaching people about healthy eating or working in a charity shop.  Or you might want to do fund raising for charities further afield.
