basically me and the other youth in my town are performing a play to raise money for a charity. we need a sponsor (a business in the town, maybe) to cover our overheads and ensure we raise maximum money. But what charity is likely to appeal to a big business company?

  1. www.riders.org

Take a look at  this website. Riders For Health are a charity that aren't as well known as they should be. They provide motorcycles and the means and teaching to maintain them to rural communities in Africa. Bikes work better than cars on the roads there and if they have sidecars they can take ill people and women in labour to hospitals instead of having to walk miles to get there. They also give them to helath workers so they can visit more people in rural areas and deliever education and medicine.

We can give all the aid we want but it is wasted unless it can get to the people who need it.

Then you could talk to local garages or motorbike dealerships about sponserships.

  2. the likes of large supermarkets like to sponsor very local charities or good causes ie local scout group, local school etc.

try and pick something very local and I'm sure you will get local businesses interested.

  3. Contact the charities locally

ask their help in getting a sponsor

and/or find out which companies locally have sponsored events

  4. Fresh Air Fund is great. People underestimate the great impact it has no young children. It funds trips for children from poor urban areas to visit the suburbs and the country during the summer. These kids usually have no safe places to play. It also helps them learn how to be independent.
