  1. It would have to be one like Baptist Childrens Homes, which are all over the southeastern US.  I've reasearched them, and known of children in need that they have helped.  They take in abused/ unwanted, and even troubled kids--teens too.  They provide them ranch homes (in some areas) where kids work together to maintain farm animals, and work, and go to school everyday, and they also instill Christian values.

  2. The Salvation Army, I usually give about 5% of my paycheck a month.  Because they help so many people all over the world.

  3. Feed the children, all of the money goes to the children not for fancy dinner party's.

  4. I donate to my area animal shelter, its a no kill shelter, and the money goes to foster baby animals, medical care for injured or abused animals, or food to help feed the unwanted abandoned animals. I know the money goes to help those that cant help themselves., and not in someones pocket

  5. I would give to Schools for Schools. It's a charity that helps fund schools in third-world countries. Our school even has a club for it. I would probably give ten percent of my allowance, since it's for a really good cause.

  6. I would like to have a charity that helped poor people with car problems.  Rich people can buy a car if their car is getting old.  Poor people buy cars that are at their end, and still have to try and keep it going.  It's sad to me.  I don't like the idea of families driving around in cars that can break down any second.  Can you imagine a family having a break down in the middle of one of these snow storms we have up in the northern U.S.?  It'd be sad.  How much I'd give would depend on how much money I had.  I don't think it's the most important type of charity there is, but I believe it'd be a good and original one.

  7. I give primarily to two international organizations: CARE International and MADRE.org.

I gave to CARE the first time because I very much wanted to give financial support to an organization that was focused on women in the developing world. I kept giving to CARE because of the excellent updates I get regarding its work, the news articles I read that mention CARE's work or where CARE staff are quoted, and the invitations from CARE to participate in various campaigns: for instance, to write my own words of encouragement on a special school ruler, which is then be given by CARE to girls in Afghanistan on their first day of school. I read about CARE in the news and am so happy to be a supporter of their work and their approach. They make me glad I'm a donor.

I have no idea how I came across MADRE. I know that it was a time when I was looking for a small organization based in the USA but focused on women, and where I might have the chance to volunteer with them, accompanying the staff on a site visit. Somehow, I came across MADRE, and was so impressed with all they do at the grassroots level in the developing world. Again, I'm happy at their updates and feel like I can really see the difference my money is making.

  8. I only give to charities that either use none of the money for their gain/salary/staff salary, or that use less that 5% for those items.....typically, I give to nothingbutnets.com, which takes no money. I alwasy check out their financial statements before giving to any charity....they must tell you how they are splitting up your money.

To Rev. Michelle above, actually, 14% goes to things other than the cause...see their financial statement.

  9. NORML.  I give what I can, when I can.  I give to them because of their convictions about fighting the system..Regardless of the legalities of Marijuana, they remain in the battle to legalize a plant...
