  1. If you are looking for a party joke, dump some M&Ms into a bottle of carbonated soda. Mentos works too. The coating lasts long enough to hand to someone and back away.

Vinegar and sodium carbonate will release CO2 and build pressure.

  2. I can see where this is going, but I will answer it anyway, because I think you won't be able to cause too much mischief this way. LOL

A good way to create pressure is by producing CO2. Actually when gun-powder goes off this is the main force which propels the projectile. Since we don't want to mess about with gun-powder, try this:

    Baking Soda + Vinegar.

Baking soda contains calcium carbonate CaCO3. Vingar is a weak acid. Mix the two together and the carbonate (CO3) ions are reduced to carbon dioxide. You can play around with the ratio to get the best effect.

    Have fun, but be careful

  3. You mean mixed to make a gas.  The pressure will happen if the mixture is placed in a sealed bottle.

Be careful when doing this... any large pressure can burst the bottle and hurt someone.  NEVER USE A GLASS BOTTLE FOR THESE EXPERIMENTS!!!!

    (1) baking soda and vinegar.

    (2) Yeast and sugar water (slow, but it works -- essentially how wine or beer are made).

    (3) If you put dry ice (very cold, do not handle w/ bare hands!!!) into water the dry ice (solid frozen CO2) will make gas CO2 fairly quickly.  DANGER! This will likely burst the bottle if you use a large amount of dry ice!!!!!!  In fact, you probably should not do this one at all.

    Take care,

    David
