Question:

What chemicals prevent freezing, if any?

I'm not savvy with chemicals but if you could name one, that would great.

  1. Anything that dissolved in water lowers its freezing temperature. Anti-freeze is a chemical added to water in vehicles to lower the water's freezing point--- It will freeze if the temperature gets low enough. That is why in some very cold northern as well as southern areas, vehichles must have a way to keep the water moving so that it doesn't freeze--

    Table salt lowers freezing point of water---but there are icebergs in the northern and southern oceans.

  3. Nothing prevents freezing.  A mixture of two or more compounds melts (or freezes) at a lower temperature than either (or any) of them alone.
