Question:

What cities around the world are currently working on Mass Transit Systems (trains, trams, etc.)?

With the price of oil sky-rocketing recently I've taken a greater interest in mass transit and its efficiency. On a summer trip to the British Isles I used the Underground in London a lot and noticed there was a tram line being built in Edinburgh. Do you know of any other public transportation systems around the world that are under construction or have just opened?

  1. Many Asian cities, like Shanghai and Mumbai, are building or expanding their transit systems.

A few US cities are as well, such as Los Angeles, but they are expanding much slower because there is more opposition from interest groups and construction costs are higher.

  2. Check out this site:- http://www.urbanrail.net/index.html which has full details on all urban mass-transit systems world wide.

Also according to Hong Kong's New Subway/BRT video includes project of BRT.

And much more projects are ongoing.

  4. I can tell you that Indianapolis has just completed a study for installing a train in between the Fishers and Downtown Indianapolis Area, and is currently studying the possibility of extending as far north as Muncie, and as far south as Bloomington.  This will take years to complete, but as they say; "the best time to plant a  tree is ten years ago, the second best time is now."
