  1. The 'big' cities you will go through in France are :

Reims, Chalons en champagne, Metz and Strasbourg

I don't know well this part of France. I only know Strasbourg area. It's really nice. There's a "wines road". Very good white wines in this part.

    ;-)

  2. Straßburg is a beautiful city to visit.

Once you are in Germany, the Autobahn A8 is the usual route, when travelling to Munich. It goes from Karlsruhe via Stuttgart, Ulm and Augsburg to Munich.

More or less directly along this route, you might want to take in the architecture of Karlsruhe, as well as the atmosphere of the famous spa (and favourite destination of the rich-and-famous): Baden-Baden.

Maybe you are interested in the famous monastery of Maulbronn, just north of the Autobahn?

Also Stuttgart and its palace, plus the city's famous zoo. Also the famous palace and gardens in Ludwigsburg.

If you are looking for a really great medieval town, Esslingen near Stuttgart is the place to go.

Ulm and Augsburg are both historic cities with stuff to see, but I've never been to either of those.

There's also a LEGO-land near Ulm, if you are travelling with kids.

A good deal further away from the Autobahn A8, you can see the famous sights of Heidelberg and Schwetzingen; many smaller places also have little castles and palaces there, e. g. Bruchsal.

From that area, you might decide to go east along the Autobahn A6, and then south on the A81, to be re-united with the A8 at Stuttgart. That way you could see sights along that bit of the A6: the car museum in Sinsheim, the 2008 state Flower Show at Bad Rappenau, and the famous medieval towns of Eppingen and Bad Wimpfen.

Freiburg an the southern Black Forest are very nice, but a really long way away from the A8 - and unfortunately, once you are in that area, there is no really sensible road to travel east by. Should you nevertheless decide to go to Freiburg, mak sure to see the following as well: http://vogtsen.land-in-sicht.com/index.p...

Lake Constance is very beautiful, especially the flower island of Mainau; it too is very far south, but ther you'll stand a far better chance to find a good road to get you back in the direction of Munich. [ http://www.lake-constance.com ]

  3. You HAVE to visit Oberammergau - even in non-play years there is a lot to see.

Another favourite stop, for me, is Garmish-Partenkirchen.

  4. I suggest  Freiburg and Rottweil . Freiburg is one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. Rottweil is an old city - the new town was built in th 15th century - the old town by the Romans .... then Lake constance

But why go to Munich? Hamburg is more fun
