  1. Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete on the North coast.

  2. Puerto Plata of course!

  3. I stayed in Punta Cana with my fiance. He has also been to Santa Domingo...he liked Punta Cana better. Punta Cana is a lot less crowded. The hotel we stayed at was the Catalonia Bavaro. We liked it so much we are going back for two weeks on our honeymoon.

  4. I would say anything in the Punta Cana area. There are many resorts and tours. The place is currently going crazy and building tons of resorts. I would get there now before it gets over populated.

  5. It all depends what you want to do in DR.  If you want to stay at a resort on  a beach, Bavaro is a good start.  If you want to see the country side, I HIGHLY recommend Barahona {Bahoruco to be exact}.  I'm from there and the beaches are virgin to tourists and it is very relaxing, and if you go further west, there are lots of national parks dedicated to wildlife preservation.  You can even see the original Taino cave drawings.  But, if you want the modern things, like the night clubs, different types of hotels, and the beauty of the Colonial times, Santo Domingo is also great to visit.

  6. The best city to go is Puerto Plata / Sosua, there are lots of fun places for young people.

  7. Try Santo Domingo

  8. If you are the types to want to go out at night and hang out at the beach during the day, then Cabarete is the best choice.  It has lots of restaurants/bars along the beach and the tourists are out every night.  Puerto Plata is more locals and dead during the week.  Puerto Plata has something like 100,000 hotel beds, so it's probably bigger.  They have toursist areas called Playa Dorado, Cofresi and Costambar.

Some less expensive ways to stay are to rent a house or condo.  There are websites out there like a1vacations.com and vrbo.com that list for the DR.   They have different amenities like private pools and hot tubs.  The price looks higher but when you split it for a group, it comes out less than a hotel.

Most hotels are all inclusive so it's all you can eat and drink for one price/person (between $80-120).  This limits your options to go out and explore other food places unless you want to pay the extra.  Good luck with your travels.
