Question:

What city is a city-state ?

A city-state is a city that isn't governed by any big goverment , just that is has it's own small government that owns only that city . HELP extra credit question !

  1. Washington D.C.  is technically not part of any state, but is just a city to itself, so I think that would qualify.


  2. If they don't have to be current, how about both Sparta and Athens in ancient Greece?

  3. The Vatican City, Rome.  Governed by the Catholic Church and is its own little sovereign nation.

  4. I'm not sure, but how about Washington, DC and Vatican City?

  5. Vatican City is the only one I know of currently in existance.  City States pretty much died out as it became easier to seize control of large areas.  City-states such as Athens and Sparta existed in Classical Greece.
