  1. Ottawa. I've been living in Toronto for almost 20 years and I've been to Ottawa several times. Everything is much cleaner, people are friendlier, and their transit doesn't strike every four years. Everybody in the city is only concerned with themselves and themselves only. The mayor is also a moron who can't budget ($30Gs a year for booze to the homeless) and doesn't know his law ("handgun ban" even though there are already federal laws in place, and how does he expect to enforce a total handgun-free city?). In other words, they actually have more brains, morals, and integrity than Toronto.

  2. At one point I have lived in Mississauga, Toronto, London, Windsor and Ottawa.

For myself Toronto is the best choice. The crime is high but only in specific areas. If you can afford to live outside of those areas the city is probably the best place to live in Canada. It has a great night life, as good shopping as your going to get in Canada, public transit is above average.

Mississuaga is clean and safe and close enough to Toronto that you get the benefits of Toronto but you also get more for less money. If you have teenage children this is probably than Toronto.

3rd would be London. It is a university town but not bad for night life. Dining needs some work and shopping is lacking.

Windsor is just Hamilton with more crime and more dirt.

Ottawa would be fine but only if you speak French. It is hard to get employment for people who are not bilingual.

  3. I have lived in Ontario all my life. I have also travelled all around the world a couple of times so I might have some ideas.

Since you have a teenager in tow you would want a city that is teen friendly as well as safe. My three recommendations are cities with strong University influences. These cities offer entertainment that stimulates mind and body. The three recommendations are not industrial cities which also has a mind numbing effect on growth. Sorry Hamilton, Sarnia, and Windsor but that's the truth lived in all three of those.

My choices some of which have already been stated are

Waterloo, a university city with a strong moral background,

Ottawa, government can give a false reality to life but the museums and universities can overcome all that.

and finally Kingston. This is one of the best of both worlds. It is a tourist town with a residential feel. The Universities normally are proud members of the community and put back a great deal more than they take.

Toronto is great but too big to be able to answer all your questions.

My personal preference is based on a fond memory of Waterloo when I was a student there many years ago. But from the large number of classmates who decided to stay there it has still some merit.

    Good Luck

  4. Kingston, ON is a great city with lots of green space. I lived there for 8 years and would move back in a heart beat. It might be the prison capital of Canada, but the crime rate is low. Also the air quality is great compared to cities around TO. The only draw back is that it can be quite, but you can always find something to do in the summer outdoors around the lake and the winters aren't too bad either.

  5. Cambridge (Preston)

  6. Ottawa is generally regarded to be one of the safest and cleanest cities in the world but you must be bilingual "English and French" to get a good job or you may consider moving to a great city,Toronto which is way bigger and lots of jobs but it's more expensive than Ottawa "actually" Toronto was ranked as the most expensive Canadian city but it's worth it.

    I am from Toronto,Ontario
